League Sports • Travel/Feeder Basketball Program
Program Overview
The Wheaton Park District Travel/ Feeder Basketball Program emphasizes a higher level of competitiveness. Because this is a competitive travel basketball program, playing time is not guaranteed. Attendance is expected at all games and practices. By not making it to a practice or game, it is hard for the team and the player to make progress during the season. If everyone is on the same page, the team will be successful. This program is designed to help players progress as a player and as a person. This program is about the athletes first and winning second.
Keeping Costs Down
To keep down the cost of the program, our coaches are volunteer coaches and are very knowledgeable. The coaches help players develop their individual skills while keeping a focus on the team as a whole. The Wheaton Park District asks if you have any questions or issues, please address them before or after practice with the coaches. Every minute of practice time is valuable. Practices are open and parents are encouraged to attend. We ask that you let the coaches' coach and we must avoid any sideline coaching.
Practices
Each team will practice twice a week for an hour each practice. Depending on the level, teams will play between 30-50 games during a season. The older the kids, the more games they will play. Teams will play home games, away games, participate in leagues and participate in tournament. Games/ tournaments are usually on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Some teams might have the occasional game during the week.
Wheaton Warrenville South/ Wheaton North High School Feeder Basketball
At the 7th and 8th grade levels, the Head Varsity coaches at Wheaton Warrenville South and Wheaton North High Schools for both boys and girls, run a feeder travel basketball program through the Wheaton Park District. The varsity coaches chose the teams and coaches at each level and the park district handles all of the administrative duties for all the feeder teams. The varsity coaches work with the coaches they select in providing direction for the teams. The Girls program starts in the beginning of October and runs to the beginning of February. The Boys program starts in November with Sunday only practices and runs until mid-march. This program will not conflict with Middle School Basketball teams.
