Winter Skating
All ice rinks are swept and re-surfaced as needed. To ensure safety, rinks are monitored and checked daily, flags are posted to let skaters know when conditions are safe. Green flags indicate safe conditions and red flags indicate unsafe conditions. The parks listed below have ice rinks for skating.

Lighted Rinks:
  • Northside Park (north end of West St.) includes a sled hill, warming shelter with limited concessions for more information, click here.
  • Rathje Park (at Roosevelt and Delles Rds.)
  • C.L. Herrick Park (at Herrick and Armbrust Streets)
  • Kelly Park (1100 Main Street) park features a man-made ice rink

Rinks Without Lighting:

  • Seven Gables (on Winner's Cup Circle)
  • Hull Park (1400 Hull Drive) park features a man-made ice rink

Northside Park Warming Shelter w/ Concessions
The Warming Shelter is open during winter months (weather permitting). The shelter accommodates those using either the sled hill or the ice skating area of Northside Park. It is a warming house that offers limited concessions to the public. There is no skate rental.

Please note: the Warming Shelter will close early if there are not enough participants on the sled hill or ice to warrant its operation or if the weather is inclement.

Warming Shelter Hours:
Mon.-Thurs. from 4pm-8pm
Sat. and School Holidays from 10am-10pm
Sun. from 10am-8pm.

Important Information
• Due to safety concerns, snowboarding is prohibited on the sled hill at Northside Park.

• Mogul building on the sled hill at Northside Park is prohibited.

• Ice at rinks must be at least 5 1/2" thick for ice skating to be permitted. Rinks are checked regularly and therefore subject to change regularly.

• Ice skating conditions are subject to weather and snowfall. If the park district feels that conditions are unsafe for skating, certain rinks may remain closed.

• In cases of heavy snowfall, all rinks may not be cleared for use. Please call 630-690-4880 for 24-hour information service about skating conditions. Rinks will not be plowed during snowfall, only when snow stops.

Hockey may be played on the side of the warming house at Northside Park but NOT in the area in front of the facility. Hockey playing on all ice rinks is restricted to the times posted in order to insure the safety of skaters. Signs are posted at Northside and Rathje Parks, times are listed as: Weekdays before 4 pm, Weekends/School Holidays before 2 pm.

Ice Fishing is only permitted at Elliot Pond. Elliot Pond is only to be utilized for ice fishing, ice skating is prohibited.
