Updated January 2011

January 2011

We have taken the previous comments that have been received and asked our consultants to incorporate them into the plan where it was possible. Listed below is a summary of the changes that have been made:

-     The detention area grading at the west side of the creek has been substantially re-worked to allow for the existing fields to remain in their current configuration. A berm will essentially be created at the north, south, and east side of the existing field, thereby creating a detention basin. The berms will also have the added effect of helping to prevent balls from the playing field from getting onto the walking paths and into the creek.

-     The compensatory storage area on the east side of the creek has been altered to allow for a more gradual, usable surface. The result of this “smoother” grading is a compensatory storage ratio of 2.5 to 1, in excess of the requirement of DuPage County.

-     The new, paved sport court area has been removed from the plans, substantially reducing impervious area related to the development.

-     The new ice rink will be a portable, refrigerated system that sits directly on the grass. The ice surface area has been enlarged from approximately 5,000 square feet to 8,400 square feet, greatly increasing the usability and play value of the ice.

-     The existing basketball court will remain in place.

-     The water play area has been moved closer to the existing playground equipment. The configuration of the water play area has been further defined and slightly adjusted. The total maximum runoff from the water play area is 10.2 gallons per hour – approximately the same as a five-minute shower.

-     Bicycle parking has been relocated to the south side of the path, adjacent to the shelter.

-     The shelter nearest the ice rink has been rotated to better relate to the new ice rink and to direct sound from the refrigeration equipment away from neighboring homes.

-     Created a more detailed plan for the sport courts after receiving input from the school district.

I hope that you will find the changes have addressed some of the concerns that have been brought up. We are looking forward to making these improvements.

Best regards,

Michael Benard, Executive Director
