Arrowhead Signature Holes Provided by: Billy Klemz, PGA Professional Golf Instructor
#10 East
The first hole of the East course is widely accepted to be the most difficult test on the entire facility. A par 5 measuring 538 yards in length, this hole is narrowly bordered by lateral hazards for its entire length. The smart tee shot will find you just short of the bridge on the right side of the fairway approximately 210 yards from the back tees. After this bridge the hole narrows dramatically for the next 180 yards. The hole then widens just beyond a large tree which forces the players to get the ball beyond the 150 yard marker on the left side of the fairway. Even if the player is fortunate enough to have a clean shot to the very undulating green, it yields few birdies. Finding this fairway for all shots and escaping this excellent test of golf with a decent score, is one of the most rewarding experiences here.
#3 West
The third hole on the west golf course was actually a converted par 3 altered in the reconstruction project. The previous green was right about where a perfect layup would find itself today, about 200 yards from the back tees. A par 4 measuring only 300 yards from the back tees is first protected by an overhanging tree in the left side of the fairway. An overly conservative layup will find you blocked from the green if it sneaks even a little to the left side of this fairway. Upon a successful tee shot , a water hazard which runs right to the front edge of the green protects against the second shot. The proximity of this water combined with the typical firmness of this green creates a very demanding play into this green. Don’t let the length fool you, regular players here have stories of triumph and defeat surrounding this short, yet very demanding, par 4.
